Before you reserve
Ask how animals are separated, how rest and activity are arranged, what staffing is available overnight, and what happens if your pet does not settle. Ask for the current admission requirements and a written total price. A visit or short familiarisation session can help you assess the setup.
Write a one-page handover

Pack to make the carer’s job clear
Label food portions and belongings. Give written instructions directly to the carer, then ask them to repeat the essentials back to you. Agree how updates will be sent and who can authorise an emergency decision. Keep sensitive documents out of public checklists.
Close the loop at collection
Confirm the collection window, late charges and what happens if your return is delayed. On collection, ask about eating, resting and any notable changes. Record what made the handover easier for next time.
