Taipei · Hot spring break · 3–5 hours · checked 17 October 2026
Plan Beitou around one honest choice: a no-bath culture walk with flexible timing, or a private hot-spring room that is worth the trip only after you hold a reservation. Do not build the day around Beitou Park’s public outdoor bath. Taipei’s Parks and Street Lights Office says it has been closed since 24 January 2025, with construction expected through 31 October 2026; the reopening date will be announced later.

Choose the plan before choosing extras
| Decision | Culture walk | Reserved private room |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Solo visitors, mixed interests, tight budgets and groups that may need to leave early | Two people who want bathing privacy and can commit to a fixed arrival time |
| Core plan | Beitou Hot Spring Museum, park walk and Thermal Valley if open | A confirmed Grand View Resort Beitou private room, with the museum or valley added only if time remains |
| Known venue cost | NT$0 museum admission and NT$0 Thermal Valley admission | From NT$2,500 per room for 90 minutes and two people |
| Main constraint | Museum and valley are closed Monday; weather or works may shorten the outdoor section | Reservation required, no solo use, five-minute hold, and late arrival can reduce room time |
| Exit plan | Return to the park or MRT area after the museum; skip the valley in heavy rain or poor walking conditions | Finish the bath, hydrate, and leave together; do not add a rushed uphill transfer or unverified second bath |

Option A: a flexible culture walk without bathing
Choose this for a first Beitou visit, a solo outing, companions who do not all want to bathe, or anyone who needs a low-cost exit at every stage. Start at Beitou Hot Spring Museum. Taipei’s Department of Cultural Affairs lists Tuesday–Sunday opening from 10:00 to 18:00, last entry 17:45, Monday closure and free admission. The museum is a former public bathhouse, so it supplies the historical context without requiring anyone to enter hot water.
Continue toward Thermal Valley only if the path and weather suit the whole group. Taipei Water Department lists the valley at No. 30-10 Zhongshan Road, about a 15-minute walk from Xinbeitou MRT, with free entry Tuesday–Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00. From 15 May to 14 September it normally extends to 18:00. It closes on Mondays, Lunar New Year’s Eve and the first day of Lunar New Year, and may close for works or other reasons. This is a viewing stop, not a bathing stop.
Allow roughly three hours from the MRT area for the museum, a slow park walk, Thermal Valley and an unhurried return. That is a planning estimate, not a measured visit. Transport, food and any locker cost remain unknown until you choose them. If it rains hard, visit the museum first and shorten the outdoor part; if the museum is crowded or anyone tires, leave the valley for another day.
Option B: reserve a private room first
Choose this when bathing is the main purpose and two people agree on the budget and fixed time. Grand View Resort Beitou’s official private-room page lists an entry option at NT$2,500 for 90 minutes. It accepts reservations within one month, online or by phone or email. The basic occupancy is two; the operator does not accept one-person use for safety. Each additional guest measuring 115 cm or taller costs NT$600, guests under 115 cm are not charged, and each room may add at most two people.

The same page says a 30-minute extension is NT$800 and must be requested at booking. Check in at the B2 private-room desk early: the reservation is held for five minutes, and late arrival may shorten the 90-minute use. Outside food is prohibited. The checked page does not state the cancellation terms, live room availability, route from your starting point or a same-day transport fare. Confirm all four before paying rather than treating the listed room price as a complete trip quote.
For a four- to five-hour half-day, protect the reservation first. Add either the museum or Thermal Valley—not both—only when the opening hours, transfer and companions’ energy leave a real buffer. If anyone feels unwell, end the bath and leave together. This guide makes no health or therapeutic claim; ask a qualified clinician about personal health concerns and follow the operator’s current rules.
What not to plan around
The public outdoor bath’s timetable and NT$60/NT$30 ticket table remain visible on the official FAQ, but the same page clearly says the facility is temporarily closed and gives no reopening date. Treat those prices as historical operating information, not a current bookable option. Check the Parks Office notice again after 31 October 2026; until an opening notice appears, choose the walk or a separately verified operator.
Pack and decide
- Record companions, walking limits and whether bathing is the actual goal.
- For the walk: carry rain protection, water and a firm turnaround time before 17:00.
- For the private room: save the reservation, price, occupancy, cancellation terms, arrival route and five-minute hold rule.
- Keep transport and food as pending costs until selected; do not enter NT$0 for unpriced items.
- Use one exit point: return to Xinbeitou MRT after the walk, or leave together after the reserved bath.
Ready to make the decision concrete? Open the plan builder and enter companions, date, culture walk or private room, reservation status, known subtotal, pending transport and the leaving time. The general planner does not prefill these fields.
